San Juan: History Walking Tour with a Guide
297 ReviewsExplore Old San Juan with a local, knowledgeable guide who will lead you on a relaxed history stroll through the oldest, most colorful section of the city.
A visit to Hacienda San Pedro is a great day trip, perfect way to experience the beauty of Jayuya in the mountains of central Puerto Rico.
The mountain town of Jayuya in the Porta Caribe Region of Puerto Rico is the location for Café Hacienda San Pedro, a working coffee farm known for producing a seductively rich coffee. The high elevation and cooler climate develops a product that is velvety and smooth with a classic aroma. The taste is semi-sweet, reminding you of caramel, with a delicate chocolaty aftertaste and spicy overtones.
Hacienda San Pedro traces its roots back to the end of the 19th century when Emeterio Atienza first arrived in Puerto Rico from Spain. The young man quickly gained a reputation as a hard worker, eventually becoming a Foreman at one of the most prestigious coffee plantations in Puerto Rico. Eventually Emeterio was able to realize his dream and was able to purchase his own farm in Coabey a sector of Jayuya. With an intense dedication to his craft and extensive knowledge of how to produce exquisite coffee; Café Hacienda San Pedro was born.
Today Emeterio's grandson, Roberto Atienza maintains the tradition and passion that he inherited from his grandfather tending to a farm that produces the finest coffee in Puerto Rico.
Café Hacienda San Pedro conducts tours of the hacienda on Saturday's and Sunday's at a cost of $10 per person. The farm is beautiful, a landscape filled with coffee plants (of course), Citrus Trees, Plantain, Avocado and more. The views of the mountains and valleys are spectacular and the climate is perfect. For tours during the week an appointment is required, please call 787.828.2083 for more information.
Hacienda San Pedro also has a rustic coffee shop where you can enjoy freshly prepared coffee and lattes or purchase some beans to take home. The coffee shop also serves cold drinks, pastries and other items including fresh produce from the farm. The second level of the shop houses a small museum displaying antique coffee equipment and items from the haciendas history.
Also on premises is La Fragua Restaurant where you can dine on authentic Puerto Rican fare in the down home dining room or out on the quaint balcony. The restaurant has a full bar including a selection of wines for your enjoyment. Please click on the menu tab above.
If you would like to try this wonderful coffee in the San Juan Metro Area, Hacienda San Pedro has a bustling coffee shop at 318 De Diego Avenue across from the San Juan Museum of Art in Santurce.
For an unforgettable experience visit Café Hacienda San Pedro, it's fun, educational and best of all you will enjoy some of the best coffee you ever had!
